2024 Kitchen Trends

These days, the kitchen is more just a space for culinary creations; Here on the Sunshine Coast, the kitchen is not just a space for cooking; it’s a hub for socialising, entertaining, and expressing personal style. Let’s explore the hottest kitchen trends that are set to make waves in 2024.

Style

Much like the 2024 bathroom trends we discussed in a previous blog post, bringing a sense of nature into the kitchen with not just greenery, but with earthy tones and textures is becoming increasingly popular. While a white kitchen is always going to be a classic choice, the white kitchens of 2024 are leaning towards more warmer tones of white, paired with textured splashback tiles and brass or gun-metal tapware and even metallic overhead cabinets in soft champagne tones.

When it comes to the overall style of the kitchen, our Sunshine Coast lifestyle continue to lend itself to the ever-popular Coastal style, combining light and bright with two-tone cabinetry and incorporating coastal hues of subdued blues and greens. Farmhouse and Hampton style continue to be popular options with shaker profile cabinetry.

Tapware

We’re also seeing a greater range of tapware colours on offer. Not only are there some beautiful neutral taps available in earthy tones such as almond, clay and soft beige, we’re also seeing an increasing number of metallic colour options such as brushed gun-metal and brushed copper – all of which create a warmer feel in the kitchen.

Storage

When it comes to storage, we’re seeing more and more people include a butler’s pantry into their design where space permits. Here, open shelving that allows you to show off your storage skills as well as easy access to ingredients is both functional and allows you to present a clutter-free kitchen. In smaller spaces, hidden storage solutions such as pull-out pantries, and clever corner pull-outs continue to provide a combination of both functionality and style.

Statement lighting

Lighting is becoming a focal point in kitchen design, with bold and stylish fixtures making a statement. Pendant lights above kitchen islands and statement chandeliers are stealing the spotlight, adding a touch of glamour and personality to the space. Mixing different textures and materials in lighting design is also a trend to watch out for.

Technology

As technology advances with each day, so does the technological integration in our homes and the kitchen is no exception. From smart fridges with cameras that allow you to view the inside of the fridge when at the shops to multi-function taps to offer hot, cold or sparkling water at your fingertips, our kitchens are becoming smarter by the day.

Multi-functional spaces

With the kitchen being the heart of the home, multi-functional spaces are gaining popularity. Australians are opting for versatile kitchen designs that seamlessly blend cooking, dining, and living areas. Islands with integrated seating, flexible storage solutions, and convertible workspaces are key elements in creating a dynamic and adaptable kitchen environment.

Engineered stone substitutes

The ban of engineered stone has been covered extensively in the media lately and with the use, supply and manufacture of all engineered stone being prohibited as of 1 July 2024, people are looking for alternatives to the stone-bench top that we all love so much.

Natural stone or granite is the obvious choice but tends to be pricier than the engineered stone. Other alternatives include Marble, porcelain, laminate, concrete and timber. All have their own pros and cons and depend on the overall look you’re trying to achieve. We’re sure we’ll see more alternatives pop up in the next foreseeable future and we’ll be sure to share what we learn in future posts.
